The week is upon us. On Thursday there will be a meeting of the full Council and on the agenda, the last chance to get flood defences for the Whitesands funded (mostly by the Scottish government).
If the councillors vote against this improvement and investment in the town they can kiss goodbye to anyone taking them seriously in future. Why would anyone set up in a town where their own councillors won’t invest in itself?
Will the line of the river change? No
Will the path along the river be removed? No, in fact the old path remains and an additional path will be built on top of the bund.
Will my crossing points be blocked by the bund? The crossings will be in different places and it should be easier to cross the road between the Bank and Devorgilla Bridge.
What about the car parking spaces that will be lost? New spaces be created at Greensands and there are 120 spaces by the New Bazaar that go unused every day.
What about the Fair? That’ll have to move. Things change. We can’t build the economy of a town around 3 weeks out of 52 in the year.
