Gubbed on a level playing field

Donald Trump’s intervention to have one of the team USA players reinstated for their game against Belgium after receiving a red card in the previous game ended in a humiliating defeat that most people probably wouldn’t have blinked at.
The whole fiasco is symptomatic of Donald’s approach to politics. He always thinks he controls the board on which the game is played. He so often had in the decades prior to people foolishly voting him into a position where he could drain them dry.
The automatic red card ban is unequivocal. Donald’s intervention to tip the scale was slimy and riled so many people that were viewing this World Cup as a unifying force where fans from all corners of the globe managed to get along. But the message it sent was essentially, “You have immunity, because I can change the rules to suit me.” At that point, if the others who are touched with this sense of immunity buy into it all hell breaks loose and life gets very dirty. This is the way things are run by his kleptocratic, kakistocratics, nepotistic regime runs things in Washington, but it didn’t work against a group of principled game officials and world-class Belgian players.
Donald T forgets that outside his domain, he’s on a level playing field and not that skilled. So when two top teams were pitted against each other, skill prevailed. I don’t know anything about the views of the team USA players so I wish them no ill, but many across the world woke up to the news of their 4-1 gubbing and said, “Good”.
